Our review
Great multi-condition performance, but it comes at a price, particularly given the lack of liner

Gore’s Fusion takes the baggy 3/4-length trousers concept and renders it in excellent Gore Windstopper Soft Shell fabric. It’s clever stuff, combining a soft feel with an internal membrane that cuts out drafts.

The fabric certainly feels great against the skin from the inside, and comfort at the knee is enhanced by the seamless construction in that area. The downside is that fewer joins mean less scope for shape, and there’s a hint of flappiness at the back of the knees.

Fit at the waist can be tuned to your specific size with Velcro adjusters that are neatly integrated into the flaps over the hip pocket zips. There’s also another pouch in the middle of the back and a final one on the right leg. The latter is welded in place to avoid stitching through the windproof fabric.

Despite the Fusion’s price tag, no liner short is supplied. We don’t think this is a deal-breaker, because you’re likely to have suitable Lycra to go underneath already, but it’s worth bearing in mind.
