These are great – water resistant by day, beer-proof by night

Made from 100 per cent rainproof Epic canvas, Howies' Towpath trousers are ideal for blasts to work, wearing all day or a towpath jaunt.

Getting soaked on the way to work can be infuriating, especially if your ride doesn’t warrant kitting out head-to-toe in Gore-Tex, so this simple and comfortable option for everyday use is a godsend.

Unlike most soft fabrics, Epic canvas is impregnated rather than coated with DWR (Durable Water Repellant), so it doesn’t lose its water resistance. And the Towpaths don’t have sealed seams, so they’re as breathable as regular trousers.

The fit is like a pair of carpenter jeans, with an articulated knee for pedalling. The ankle opening is a little too wide, making them prone to catching on exposed chainrings, but for general use and for keeping the weather at bay, trousers don’t come better than these.
