HED Clip Lite aero bars review£199.00

Peak performing clip-ons

HED only do aero, and as the classic feature loaded Clip Lite proves, they do it very well if you can afford them.

There’s a choice of three carbon extensions: ‘shallow S’ (seen here), an upswept ‘lazy S’ and the angular ‘kick’ set (all £80 separately).

Beautiful crisply machined scalloped sockets hold the extensions level with the base bars for a usefully low- tucked position. Be careful fitting tip shifters into the carbon tips though.

Hinged arms mean you can flip the arm rests up to maximise bar top space on climbs, while spring washers stop them rattling when not in use.

Eight bolt holes give four different fine-tuned position options and there are 12 and 24mm riser kits available too. Wafer-thin carbon-fibre rests shave grams and the dual density pads are comfortable, if not exactly flashy.

Guy started filling his brain with cycle stats and steaming up bike shop windows back in 1980. He worked the other side of those windows from '89 while getting a degree in “describing broken things covered in mud" (archaeology). Dug historical holes in the ground through the early '90s, then became a pro bike tester in '97. Guy has ridden thousands of bikes and even more components the world over since then and can remember them all in vivid, haunting detail. Can't remember where the car keys are, though.
