The problem with budget tri bars has been poorly designed mounting brackets. In answer to this, the T6 aluminium Olympus is pleasingly finished with a choice of bracket diameters - 25.8 for standard bars and 31.8 for oversize models.
Fitting is both simple and effective, although the Allen fixing bolt heads supplied with the test model were very soft and rounded off with frightening ease. They didn't take kindly to much adjustment, either, so ensure the tri bar is at the correct extension for you, liberally grease all threaded sections and mount in one hit (buying a couple of spare mounting bolts from your local hardware store would be a good move should the worst happen). Their narrow profile feels natural and the arm rests, while looking spartan, are surprisingly comfortable. The powder-coated finish is tough and should see a good few seasons before looking tatty. However, the mounting of the arm rests makes fitting a computer tricky.
While not the most technologically advanced design or material, these are very nicely made and would be a great buy for someone building a TT/ training bike on a budget and wanting honest reliable kit. They would also suit more experienced riders looking to do the occasional TT or wanting a greater choice of positions on the training bike.
