"Great when new, but these are silly-expensive, vulnerable to installation damage and don’t last"

FSA were one of the first companies to introduce ceramic bearings to cycling and their Mega Exo is certainly silky smooth when new.

However, the design is vulnerable to installation crush damage, particularly with FSA cranks. With no obvious stop point on the taper you need to be very careful and check repeatedly as you tighten to ensure it still spins smoothly.

Even carefully installed ones don’t last as long as they should, with one sample dead and another dying after seven months.
