Quality, super-tough and super-stiff

If you want to add a bit of bling to your fixie, how about the shiny 612 Track chainset? It’s a cold forged, five-bolt design with a 144mm bolt circle diameter and a JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) bottom bracket taper – so it’ll work with Shimano and other bottom brackets.

The 46-tooth chainring is an 1/8in track pitch model – about right for fixed or singlespeed riding when matched to a 16 or 17-tooth rear cog. The 1-1/2in deep arms are deeply scalloped at the back, keeping weight down to a reasonable 761g for the 170mm long version (there's a 165mm option too), including chainring and bolts.

Weight isn’t really an issue with this type of crank, though – what’s important is stiffness, and that’s something the 612 really delivers, with no flex or vibration. Though we did occasionally rub our heels on the arms, the hard wearing anodised finish has only dulled slightly in a couple of places. It’s available in red or gold.
