Truvativ Holzfeller
BikeRadar verdict
"Good-looking crankset, but the fact that ours came loose raises concerns"
The Holzfeller has been Truvativ’s flagship hardcore crankset for many years. It’s super-stiff, and its attractive polished black finish made it a style favourite with our testers.
Chainring wise, it’s a 32/22 combo which covers most bases in terms of gear range, while a big, burly bash ring is welcome. Weighing in at 1200g its only 32g heavier than the Shimano Saint, which is surprising since it’s made from solid alloy.
That’s the good news; now time for the bad news. Our set came loose after two rides, and we’ve had many instances of them falling off altogether — which defeats the point of a hardcore crankset. It’s possible the problem is due to the semi-circular splines which the crank bolts on to, but it’s certainly an issue that needs addressing.
