Race Face Ride XC Crankset (09) | $156.28
BikeRadar verdict
"Race Face kudos at a low price, but bottom bracket lets it down "
With its chunky geometric lozenge looks and laser-etched trim, Race Face’s entry crank is an eyecatcher but its bottom bracket lets it down.
The laser-etched, hard-anodised outer ring and Race Face monogrammed chainring bolts will get approving nods from snobs, and it handles log strikes well. Stiffness and shifting are reasonable, with heavy-duty options in Race Face's Ride DH downhill range.
The rough forged finish and chunky styling of the cranks aren’t to everyone’s taste. The deep ridged arms and tall centre can catch ankles and scuff quickly, and are heavy compared to Shimano's SLX crankset, which costs over a tenner less.
While spline changes on the offside fixed axle and Phil Wood grease in the bottom bracket cups have improved installation and longevity, they’re still substandard.
