Avid Code | $318.22
BikeRadar verdict
"Super powerful and controlled stopper without excess weight or cost"
The Code disc brake is Avid’s super-sized, speed-eating answer to the heat and power demands of freeriding.
It sports industrial looks with a broader-levered version of Avid’s superb-feeling Power Reserve Geometry and a big bite point dial for fine tuning.
The bolt-together calliper uses a long pad and four separate pots to apply a vice-like grip on the rotor. You’ll need time to adjust to the ‘hit a brick wall’ power but it’s a very controllable brake once you’re used to it.
The CPS mounting system makes it easier to set up drag-free than most monster brakes and reliability and crash proofing has been impressive on all sets we’ve used so far.
Pricing is par for a proper mountain-proof anchor too, with a cheaper Code 5 option available.
