Avid Juicy Seven Carbon | $149.16
BikeRadar verdict
"Well proven with great feel and power but not happy when hot"
The Juicy Seven Carbon gets all the black fibre bling but with more accessible and practical features, making it an impressive trail all-rounder.
The oddly angled lever of the ‘power reserve geometry’ design gives a great, easily modulated lever feel, while the bite point and reach are easily adjustable. These brakes kick out more power than average for a given rotor size too, so you’ll find that 185mm is more than ample for most situations.
They’re not the lightest brake around, but you can save a few extra grams by using a Matchmaker shared clamp for the SRAM X.0 and X.9 shifters. 3D rub-free setup is easy with the cup and cone spacer washers, too. However, the shortage of heat tolerance and rapid fadeout mean that the Juicy Seven Carbon is not a recommended full mountain brake.
The carbons look great but if you’re after value the 18g heavier Juicy Seven is £40 less.
