Kinesis Xmax review

The Xmax is a sturdy carbon-wrapped aluminium offering that's quite a lot heavier than the other forks, but importers Upgrade say there's a new version on the way that'll weigh around 120g less.

Surprisingly heavy, but no serious problems

The Xmax is a sturdy carbon-wrapped aluminium offering that's quite a lot heavier than the other forks on test here, but importers Upgrade say there's a new version on the way that'll weigh around 120g less.

But if you want to fit rim brakes you'll have to pay another £39.95 for the clamp-on bosses. The big offset is good for stability, especially if your frame has a steep head angle and, while the cautiously overbuilt structure is bound to put off XC riders searching for minimum weight, it also makes this the one to go for if you're a heavy, clumsy or hard rider. The offset also makes it a good choice if you want a steep head angle on a 29er.
