BikeRadar verdict

45 out of 5 stars

"Strong, consistent and easy to use. The best sub-£500 long-travel fork available"

Sat 2 May 2009, 4:00 pm UTCBy Guy Kesteven, Mountain Biking UK

Domain is basically just a cheap RockShox Lyrik. It shares the same lower legs, Maxle screw-through axle, bushing and seal hardware as its twice-the-price brother, but with steel upper legs and steerer adding a few hundred grams and 20mm of travel.

The 318 version (as opposed to the horrible feeling 302s we’ve met on some complete bikes) gets a basic version of RockShox’s well proven Motion Control damping.

That means consistent, widely adjustable rebound throughout the extended stroke, and while it can get lairy through long rock gardens it’s fine most of the time.

There’s a 115-160mm UTurn version and a 1.5in steerer version, so there’s every fork option you could want. If you're on a tight budget, it's a winner.
