It may be a small detail, but the Fox 40 RC2’s 20mm through-axle only requires a 5mm Allen key to remove it, which makes life far easier compared to other triple-clamp forks.
The 40 RC2 boasts a super-stiff chassis that makes for precise steering and great control in technical terrain. After bedding in, it will cope with everything you can throw at it, proving its World Cup winning pedigree and swallowing big hits with relative ease, thanks to its 203mm (8in) of travel.
Its predictability and big-hitting capability mean line choice is a confident affair – the front wheel stays where it needs to, no matter what lies in its path. The competitive weight of 3.14kg (6.9lb) and steering precision on offer make this a great fork for any budding racers out there.
The FIT RC2 damper offers external low- and high-speed compression adjusters as well as rebound, that all work well with a great effective range, making it very simple to dial the fork in and get it feeling spot-on.
You might find the stiff chassis deflects too much vibration through your bike and body, though. There is some stiction in the fork, but this looks like it will be solved with the introduction of the Kashima coating in 2011.
