Manitou's Black family has been around for a long time now, but don't overlook this dependably capable range if you're after a longer travel XC model.
With 30mm stanchions and an air spring, the Platinum is light, even in this 120mm travel version. It's stiff steering too and low enough in height not to disturb handling. Spring rate is easily set via the single sided air spring and it's plush and free-moving straight from the box thanks to the Evil Genius seals, negative coil spring and Semi Oil Bath lubrication.
Experience tells us that it'll stay that way for months without attention and stanchion wear/corrosion isn't an issue either. TPC damping on the top Platinum models is equally well proven with the separate rebound and compression circuits giving accurate impact control. The external rebound adjuster covers a full range from hyperactive to barely moving. The Click It also comes with an effective handlebar mounted lockout.
Post-style disc mounts make brake fitting easy and the low reverse arch brace accommodates tyres up to 2.3in. While this is not a hot new fork, pricing is reasonable considering the features you're getting. The cheaper Fluid Flow damped Elite model drops the price down to £250.
