White Brothers are undoubtedly one of the under sung suspension builders around, quietly carving out their super high quality, innovative products in Grand Junction Colorado. Being based between singletrack heaven Fruita and the high mountains of Crested Butte obviously helps too, as these are really good forks.

If we sound a mite surprised it's because WBs used to die in record time in our vile weather, but we've had our biggest tester beasting this one horribly for over a year without a single glitch.

It took a while to bed them in, but they're impressively smooth and controlled right through the bump range now. The cunning IMV magnetic threshold valve still works really well too. It locks the fork until you hit a bump big enough to dislodge whatever threshold you've set then flows uninterrupted until the trail smooths out again. It's not quite as seamless as the Fox but then it's over £100 cheaper.

Despite the retro fully CNC'd looks (slightly smoothed on forthcoming 07 forks) it's impressively stiff for it's medium weight too, with little twist or twang even when really pushed. A huge range of 85mm, bolt through axle (£600) and 29in wheel versions are also available.

He worked the other side of those windows from '89 while getting a degree in “describing broken things covered in mud" (archaeology). Dug historical holes in the ground through the early '90s, then became a pro bike tester in '97. Guy has ridden thousands of bikes and even more components the world over since then and can remember them all in vivid, haunting detail. Can't remember where the car keys are, though.
