Niner Flat Top handlebar review£48.00

Keeps your hands low over a larger wheel

BikeRadar score3.5/5

Niner specialise in 29in-wheeled mountain bikes and parts, and their flat top bar is designed to keep your hands low over a larger wheel. At 711mm it’s as wide as most all-mountain bars but the flat design saves weight compared to risers, and it’s also less expensive than pipes with a couple of kinks in.

The butted 7000 series bar is bead blasted to stop stress risers forming prematurely and it gets twist and trim marks marked on. It can take some visual and rotational adjustment as at first it looks like it droops rather than being flat.

The nine-degree sweep starts early, but there’s no extra kickback towards the tips so it puts your hands in the same place in feel terms, albeit at a slightly flatter wrist angle. Lab testing confirms its comfortable but accurate on-trail feel, and you can add rise with stem spacers, making it a good, well priced all-rounder.
