Ragley Carnegie handlebar review
|$57
BikeRadar verdict
"A great solution if you like a big backsweep on your bars"
Some handlebars are as much a personal style statement as a tool for the job, and it’s easy to take the piss out of a bar that looks very different. But scrap your preconceptions and try to get a ride on the Carnegie.
This 7075-T6 triple butted aluminium bar is 685mm (27in) wide with a nominal 25.4mm of rise, but it’s the generous 25-degree backsweep that sets it apart.
This puts your hands in a position that may feel odd at first but quickly starts to feel intuitively comfy, especially on long cruisy rides. Once you’re accustomed to the position, it works well over rough ground too.
Opinion varies as to whether it feels at its best with the ends set flat or slightly down, but either way there’s plenty of adjustment and hand space, and the 33mm forward wiggle means you won’t need to mess with stem length.

I used the Mary Bars, similar kind of thing to these. Strange, but they worked really well for me. They went on my Salsa 29er which just made total sense. I did north shore which I couldn't do on a 26" ful sus Stumpy, and several times, I out climbed several very good climbers too.
These will work well on singlespeeds, and very well on 29ers. Put your prejustices aside and try one

How does the layout of these bars compare with Mary Bars? Like Salsarider I use Mary Bars on one of my bikes and these have a very familiar look to them.

I'm awaiting mine in the post. Excruciating!
Currently using a Titec H-Bar, which was OK at first, but eventually felt that the 45-degree sweep is too much. Prior to that, my first alt bar was a narrow, 25-degree bar taken off a recreational MTB. The sweep was immediately comfy, but it was just too darn narrow, especially for SS. I'll post again once I get my Carnegie's and get a chance to ride with them.
