Halo Superdrive hub review
BikeRadar verdict
"Amazing quality for the money, and an individual love-it-or-hate-it sound"
Shopping partners
Halo’s new Supa Drive takes the idea of noisy freehubs one step further. With its manic sounding 120tooth ratchet engagement system, it almost screams rather than clicks (most ratchet pawl hubs have just 24 teeth).
The benefit is almost instant engagement, with power driven into the rear wheel as soon as the cranks turn forward. This is great for four-cross and street, or for dropping that last crank in before a gap.
The noise takes some getting used to – the bike sounds like it is going three times as quick as it is, which can be off-putting and can make setting your speed for jumps a little difficult while your ears get used to the aural assault!

This is a re bagged Chosen hub from Taiwan/China its also sold as a Superstar superleggera.
They use an identical three pawl free hub and similar engagement ring to fit the re bag hub bodies. Its a great hub but: After 4000km of hard road and XC, the o ring on the free hub body wears out and it will not hold lubricant. The pawls which slide on seats not pivot begin to wear into the housing and begin to perform poorly. Replacing the engagement ring requires a magical tool no one can get. That all in 6 months time. I have three of these and I am pissed because they wont sell parts like a lousy seal kit for the oil and the bearings. The free hub body costs as much as the entire hub and is hard to find.....LAME! I am not despoking a wheel every 4000km to play games with the nose picking department at Halo as I am outside the UK. Looks like I got suckered into cool looking Asian Knock offs. If you are wealthy and buy new parts after every ride then go for it!
