Exustar Exustar PM82 Pedals
BikeRadar verdict
"A combination of clipless pedal security and flat pedal versatility at a budget price"
There are numerous reasons why you might want a pedal that combines a single-sided SPD mechanism on one side with a flat body on the other.
You may have one bike you use for urban or commuting use with non cycling-specific shoes and then tour on it clipless. In my case I want to cut down on the amount of clipping in and out because of arthritis - but want to ride clipped in for most of my 12-mile commute.
These pedals, from another cheaper Taiwanese challenger to Shimano, are ideal for the job. Robustly made from aluminium and featuring a chromoly axle and binding with smooth running bearings, they're a more wallet-friendly alternative to the big S's M324 MTB pedals (£39.99); they're also 73g lighter. They come fitted with reflectors and boxed with cleats that have a very similar profile to Shimano's own - in fact, they work fine with Shimano cleats, and Exustar's cleats work just as well with Shimano pedals, so there's no problem if you mix and match the two systems.
