A chromoly spindle and steel springy bits nestle inside a composite body that comes with interchangeable grey, blue or red pieces of plastic wing so you can match your pedals to your bike as your tastes desire: they also come as a blue pedal with black, light blue or yellow rails. The bearings were rough straight out the box which didn't ease any of our fears over previous EggBeater reliability problems but while they did bed-in a bit they benefited greatly from the end-cap being popped off and some grease splurged in there - it's a good old-fashioned cup and cone bearing system - and the pedals have a one year warranty should it all go clips-up.
