A winning alloy post for weight weenies

BikeRadar score4.5/5

This seat post is made of the same light, strong scandium alloy as Control Tech's stem and handlebar that we've also tested, and offers the same blend of stiffness and vibration damping. Control Tech makes two head styles for its posts: a single-bolt design and this, the twin-bolt design. Personally, we prefer the twin-bolt approach for its blend of security and adjustability.

The shaft is available in 350mm or 400mm lengths; we opted for the larger size. Ours had laser-etched calibrated height and 27.2mm markings, but 30.9mm and 31.6mm versions are also available. Weighing just 219g, our post was easily one of the lightest mass-market alloy seat posts we've ever tested.

Many riders avoid carbon seat posts, preferring to bend an alloy post than splinter a carbon one. Our test sample was subjected to what can only be described as a hard time on our trail bikes and emerged from the darkness of the Welsh woods around Mountain Ash unscathed and unbent.

Heavy riders and/or those who regularly flat-land jumps and drops might want to go with something heavier, though.
