Crank Brothers Joplin Seatpost£190.00

Slick adjustable-height post but needs good maintenance

BikeRadar score3.5/5

You may recognise this post – Crank Brothers bought the rights to the popular Maverick Speedball adjustable-height seatpost and gave it a makeover.

It now looks a bit flashier, with anodised clamps and a knurled seal retainer.

We opted for the standard model that's operated by a lever under the saddle. It does involve removing a hand from the bars to drop the saddle, but for busy bikes it’s a cleaner option, and cheaper too.

The operation is slick and consistent in dry conditions, but like the old Maverick post, care must be taken in wet and muddy conditions because it soon turns into an indexed affair.

Basic servicing is easy – and you must do this fairly regularly in order to keep it working smoothly – but for a full strip, oil change and repressurise you’re best off returning it to your local shop.

The Joplin post is available in 30.9mm and 31.6mm sizes and in lever, or remote lever versions.
