Bontrager Race X Lite stem | $99.99
BikeRadar verdict
"Very light but usable stem with bonus extras at a great price"
It may not look much, but Bontrager’s RXL mountain bike stem is a seriously lightweight performer for the money.
The simple cold-forged 7050 T6 aluminium body means no extra machining costs for a price that’s half of most of its super-light competitors. It’s done accurately enough to use this 114g waif for everyday trail riding without worry though.
There is more flex than usual if you really wrench it, but that’s par for the course for diet stems. The closely spaced four-bolt clamp with ovalised front and rear faces is designed to allow flex and reduce stress on matching super-light bars. Bontrager boost value by including a star-fangled steerer nut and a handful of spacers too.

User review of Bontrager Race X Lite stem
I have one of these on my road/racing bike, and I'm very happy with it. I didn't know it when I bought it, but I've since realized that it's one of the lightest non-carbon stems out there, so the price is very reasonable. I've seen a lot of these on the bikes of professional racers, too. Most of the Astana guys use this stem even though the stock version of their Madone bikes come with the Race XXX Lite carbon version instead - so I'm guessing the Race X Lite version offers the better strength to weight trade-off (otherwise, they wouldn't use it).
