Fast, robust and trail proven, the Razer MX is a great rear option for hard conditions but lacks cornering grip.

The low, trapezoidal, micro-grip-topped plates in dual compound ZSG rubber are super-fast and provide an impressive amount of straightline stick on firm trails.

The weight is a reasonable compromise for the toughness of the tyres and the ASB reinforcement above the bead definitely reduces pinch flats on rocky trails.

While the Razer MX rolls fast and tips into corners smoothly, there’s very little shoulder grip, making it sketchy on the front, and the back end can break out suddenly and severely, particularly on off-cambers or diagonal logs/rocks.

We actually suffered more flats with the PR puncture-resistant layer version than the others: that could just be bad luck, but we still have to be convinced.

The stiffer, more plasticky feel of the Razer MX PR also means less supple ground moulding traction than the standard – and less expensive – version.

    Not had a puncture with my PR's but would second the fact they're very sketchy on anything damp. If you're riding over hard-pack trails they're excellent but if looking to gain some speed on your usual mixed condition trails (or trail centres) I'd look elsewhere (like a Maxxis Aspen).
