Intense CC 2.25in tyre £27

You’ll have fun surfing its prolonged, controllable drifts

BikeRadar score 3.5/5

One of the first generous-sized cross-country tyres, Intense’s CC all-rounder still has many loyal fans. Its chunky dry grip and good drop manners for its weight make it a good all-rounder for rockier conditions. It's a surfer not a sticker in sloppier stuff though.

Where it’s fair to say that the tread on this tyre looks pretty aggressive, there’s also plenty of flat-top area so it’s actually okay in speed terms, with a nice fluid feel that cushions rocks and drops well.

The chunky treads grip well in most conditions too, with decent braking/drive adhesion, particularly in drier, looser conditions. It’s definitely a slider rather than a sticker in mud, but you’ll have fun surfing its prolonged, controllable drifts.

The medium-compound rubber isn't quite as sticky as some when leaned hard over on rocks, but big, well supported blocks keep it stable and predictable.

It’s less treacherous than many on rocks and roots, though, and only really clots in the claggiest mud.

It digs better straight-line traction out of loose and wet conditions than most tyres too, without being sketchy, sluggish or wearing out in weeks when summer comes around.

The folding bead also helps keep the weight well within agile, ride all day limits, making the CC a great choice for longer travel cross-country/allmountain bikes where bursting tyres are often an Achilles heel.

It's well priced too.
