Panaracer Fire XC Pro 1.8in
BikeRadar verdict
"Speedy and surprisingly tough deep cutting skinny grip"
Shopping partners
The skinniest version of Panaracer's well-loved all rounder is a great example of how good a sludge-cutter can be for racing.
Small, sharp edged, square centre blocks bite impressively well once the skinny carcass has sunk into soft ground. They clear super-quick too, so you'll be one of the last to clog, however bad the course gets.
You could say that about most skinny tyres though, so the Fire XC has a few more tricks up its sleeve which make it worth special mention. Firstly, full-size 'ZSG' softer compound side wings give the Fire much more leaning/off-camber clamber grip than most miniature rubber too.
The ASB reinforced sidewall really does shrug off pinch ?ats better than normal tyres too so you'll survive clattering through sharp stuff better. In other words while skinnies always take some getting used to, you can ride this a lot less nervously than most.
Panaracer do an even more toothier 'Fire Mud' 1.8in tyre, which is even better in runny mess but for mixed speed we would still stick with this one.

I used these in the Winter of 2006, and I found them good enough, but the hard knobs and thin tyre really effected my balance!!

Which tyre are you reviewing?! Fire XC pro .8 or the Fire mud pro 1.8? I had the fire mud 1.8 a few years back but it wore out way too quickly and became far less effective in mud, also the tyre is narrow and low volume so things start getting bumpy.

The tyre pictured alongside this review is the Fire XC Pro folding, NOT the Fire Mud Pro!!
Halfords have recently advertised the Mud Pro for £15 for two tires. Unlike BikeRadar, their website seems to know the difference between these different tyres, but no Halfords store stocks them.
It had to be too good to be true at that price! And come on BikeRadar, post the right picture!

Excellent for both onroad and offroad. Sailed through gravel and mud effortlessly, responsive and predictable control. Light weight and low volume (1.8) ensure optimum speed, especially with the help of low rolling resistance characteristic. For all these, the added value of KILLER LOOK! I will not trade this tyre for anything less. Highly recommended!
