"Superlight, all-condition race tyre with good puncture protection"

The Ultremo is a race tyre that happens to come with puncture protection, like Michelin’s Pro 3, but this Schwalbe tyre is so light you wouldn’t think there was any protection at all.

In fact it’s not just tougher than the Pro 3 but tougher than most race tyres and many training tyres too, thanks to a dense weave of Vectran under the tread.

Softer shoulders give decent cornering grip, like the Pro 3, although the Ultremo’s rolling efficiency is a little lower by comparison. For bigger mileages or worse conditions, it has the edge on the Michelin.

  • Replaced my Mitch Pro 2's with Ultremo's this year. Really pleased with them - they sailed over some pretty rough stuff in the Dave Lloyd Mega and the Tour of the Black Mountains, puncture free. They also are a lot easier to fit than the Pro 2's were on my Easton rims.

  • Fast, but crap-magnets. They cut like butter, but they absolutely float on good solid blacktop. An absolute joy when they're on good surfaces, even wet or wintery ones, but the life expectancy of a mayfly on anything else.

  • Extremely quick on good roads but I got three punctures on my first ever ride.......rode them on a sunny winters day with damp roads and they cut up quickly. I imagine they'll be superb on hard blacktop in the summer but if you want puncture protection I'd steer clear...

  • They are not as pretty as the Michelin Pros : )
