The Mondo series has been constructed to be lighter than Specialized's All-Conditions range. The Pro version tested here has the added advantage of costing a third less than the range-leading S-Works tyre. All the ingredients, therefore, for a top notch product.

In practice, the Flak Jacket puncture protection is highly effective for small intrusions such as glass, but proved to be no better than the rest for thorns. The shouldered, triangular profiled dual-compound tread resembles that of a motorcycle tyre, and plants a reassuringly broad footprint when cornering. This certainly provides the rider with a greater feeling of security on difficult, rain-soaked surfaces, especially when compared with the other tyres we've tested here.

The 120TPI casing may feel plush and comfortable but when the tyre is inflated beyond its 115psi minimum operating pressure, it can start to feel far more harsh.
