Mavic Ksyrium Premium
BikeRadar verdict
"The ultimate Ksyrium has its advantages but is still too expensive "
Almost a decade ago Mavic caused a sensation with the original Ksyrium design. The new range-heading Premium model is marginally lighter than the standard Ksyrium SL, and includes titanium axles and skewers in place of the steel ones used on the lower-priced SL. Like the SL, the Premium wheels have a carbon front hub and alloy rear.
The super-sized Zicral alloy straight-pull spokes are arranged in the hub with the minimal amount of dishing to provide excellent lateral stiffness. Contact with the brake blocks is virtually nonexistent when climbing steep hills. Run your finger along the edge of the rim and it’s easy to see that the braking surface is quite thin, so don’t expect them to last as long as heavier wheels when used for prolonged periods.
When using the beautifully crafted skewers, avoid the temptation to apply heavy force as they are designed to require only gentle pressure on the closure lever.
The Premiums come with a wheel bag, but this isn’t enough to justify the high price tag.

These wheels are seriously stiff, seriously fast, and seriously robust.
Yes they are also seriously expensive, but I got mine for £630, and I they are definately the best wheel I have ever used.
I didn't give them full marks due to the price, and the fact that if I don't do the front QR up tight, the front can squeek while climbing out of the saddle.
I've now decided to buy another pair to use on my 'cross bike.

Just got this wheelset on my new 09 Scott Addict R2, and it definitley a top wheelset in looks and performance. But mavic's new QR skewers rattle the whole time while ur riding!
SO annoying!!! This should be happening on a 700 quid wheelset.
Am off to fit some KCNC ones now!

Got these for £596 on Wiggle which is about what the wheels should cost, you gain little over the SL,a few grams from the titanium but this reallt is not worth £100 more over the SL,spend £40 on some KCNC titanium skewers and the SL's are in the same weight ball park as the Premium.
Great bombproof wheels but anything over £600 is too expensive.
