Hope Pro II On Mavic XC717 Wheelset (09) | $450
BikeRadar verdict
"Classic tough trail rim, hand-built onto a reliable and versatile hub at a great price"
It turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks, as Hope’s new wheelpacks top the podium yet again.
Hope’s Pro II hub design hasn’t changed, but the body is now machined from a cold forged block for increased life.
Otherwise it’s the same noisy but super-reliable freehub, long-lived bearings and universal axle compatibility.
We’ve suffered occasional cassette gouging on the alloy freehub in extreme use but steel (singlespeed and trials) freehubs are available as upgrades.
In-house handbuilding onto the legendary Mavic XC717 disc rim creates a stiff, trustworthy wheelset.
Add 15mm adaptors, spokes, rim tape and stickers in the pack, as well as factory direct service for under £300, and you’re sorted.
Manufacturers description
Wheels are supplied as QR and can be converted with the included 15mm conversion (XC rims - 355, 4.2 and 717) or the 20mm conversion included with all other rims. The Pro 2 hub is world renowned for it's ideal combination of light weight, strength and compatibility options. It has been successfully used for XC racing, all day trail riding and heavy duty DH and FR use. This is genuinely one hub for all uses, and with the 7 rim options you now have the choice of the perfect rim for your kind of riding.
The wheels are built and hand finished in our Barnoldswick Factory using DT Swiss competition double butted spokes and brass nipples.
Wheels are supplied with rim tape (not on Stan's), spare spokes and nipples and come packaged in purpose made wheel boxes.
An aftermarket No Tubes tubeless conversion kit is also available for all No Tubes rims. Ask your bike shop for more details.

User review of Hope Pro II On Mavic XC717 Wheelset (09)
I've had a set of these (built by my LBS 2.5 years ago) and can thoroughly recommend them. I've only just had to replace the bearings in the rear wheel (front are still fine) and the rims are still dead straight despite weekly riding in the Lakes. The ally freehub is fine as long as you use a cassette with an alloy spider (XT or top end SRAM)

Had a set of mavic EN521 rims built with Pro 2 hubs. These wheels are the dogs! Strong enough for freeride, yet still light enough for xc. Fit a no tubes tubeless conversion kit and you have the ultimate wheel set. I've been doing 7 ft drops at Wharncliffe. had some big crashes in Maccelsfield forest, battered them in the Peak district and they're still straight as the day they came out the box.

I decided to go with the xm719 rims for slight extra weight but a supposedly stonger wheel.
Found them absolutely fantastic. given them a good battering and they're still completely true. fantasic wheelset.
