Weinmann used to be one of the biggest names in wheel components and this XM820 rim shows they can still turn out quality kit.

We worked these super-hard for their weight and they never wobbled or dented, despite blowing tyres and even breaking a frame in the process.

At 27mm wide, they’ve handled 2.35in tyres fine (although they come off easily if you do puncture) and come in blue and red anodised finishes as well.

The 32 spokes were starting to slacken by the end of testing though, so regular checking is wise. The same applies to the cup-and-cone Shimano hub bearings, although we had no problems with this particular set. The wheels only come in quick-release flavour.
