Shimano XT AM Wheelset (08) | $476.62
BikeRadar verdict
"20mm/QR-only but super tough wheels that are well worth the money"
Unlike the lighter XC XTs, the Shimano XT AM rims are absolutely bombproof. At 26.4mm they’re not that wide, but they’re UST tubeless compatible as standard.
There are only 24 spokes each end, but they’re straight-pull and non-butted to keep the wheel stiff and accurate in use.
The fast reacting freehub also offsets the weight in terms of acceleration, and because it’s steel, so it won’t get scarred by loose cassettes. Adjustable bearings can extend its life almost indefinitely if you know what you’re doing. They currently only come in 20mm front/quick release rear with Centerlock rotor mounting though.
They say XT on them, but the way these wheels have handled everything from dirt jumping to Alpine hammering they could just as easily say Saint!
