On-One Slot Dropout Inbred frame£175.00

Budget trail chassis

BikeRadar score4/5

On-One’s combination of innovative design and giveaway price blew the market apart when their first bikes appeared. This slot dropout evolution of their original Inbred frame is the ultimate high value, high versatility vehicle.

DN6 Lite is a custom butted and custom drawn chromoly tubeset that produces an impressively lively, real steel feel for the price. The long top tube also means you can run a short stem to keep the conventional handling sharp and reactive without cramping your breathing space.

Multiple gussets allow the use of a 130mm-travel (5in) fork – look to the beefed-up On-One 456 if you want to run a longer fork – while the extended seat tube uses a 27.2mm seatpost for extra flex under the saddle.

The multi-part wishbone seatstay bridge and dented chainstays deliver huge mud room around the rear wheel, with outside edge gussets to spread stress. The slotted horizontal axle and chainstay brake mounts allow you to run one or multiple gears, or to change rear geometry too.

Guy started filling his brain with cycle stats and steaming up bike shop windows back in 1980. He worked the other side of those windows from '89 while getting a degree in “describing broken things covered in mud" (archaeology). Dug historical holes in the ground through the early '90s, then became a pro bike tester in '97. Guy has ridden thousands of bikes and even more components the world over since then and can remember them all in vivid, haunting detail. Can't remember where the car keys are, though.
