Giro Ionos
BikeRadar verdict
"More than just a facelift. Improved ventilation and fit make the Ionos our favourite race helmet"
Giro's Ionos is an expensive, high end race helmet and it performs like one. It knocks Giro's Atmos off the top perch and it's the choice of many a sponsored pro rider. Admittedly it's hard not to like a £129/$225 helmet but you really can notice the improvement in ventilation and comfort on the Ionos.
The new vent pattern and exhaust design have a marked improvement on air flow and ventilation. We even rate it above the new Specialized D2, even though it's slightly heavier and costs more.
Quality is high and the array of new features makes the Ionos an impressive addition to the race wardrobe. Read on for a further in depth review on the Giro Ionos.

User review of Giro Ionos
first impression is it looks almost the same as the atmos. for those who like to stand out in the crowd and have the latest 'blng' i'm not sure it'll fit their criterea.
i have the atmos and wonder how it really compares...

I agree it does look gorgeous and the integral 'skeleton' co-moulding with foam adds stiffness and protection to counter the larger ventilation holes, but I am disappointed there isn't a better solution to the size adjustment.
The helmet has two 'arrow' shapes you press down on to tighten the helmet at the back, but you have to press them simultaneously to get a symmetrical fit - and there's no way you could do it one-handed when riding. I find this a disappointing lack of detail for a helmet so expensive, considering that the Bell Sweep R is half the price and has a clever dial on the back that you can adjust to loosen or tighten the helmet with one hand while riding.. I'd expect such innovation at double the price too!

Audiolathe - never had a problem with the Giro system before myself. I can easily use it one handed (finger and thumb?). Most cyclists can ride no handed anyway. I'm not entirely sure why you want to put the helmet on/off while riding either. It's a tried and tested system. Every brand is different that's the great thing about choice
The Atmos is a great helmet but Giro have still improved on it with the Ionos

Light, perfect fit, cool and very comfortable while giving a good sense of security. Looks decent as well, although that is not, for me, a major factor. Well worth the extra few pounds.
