Kask K10 Helmet

BikeRadar verdict

4.5 out of 5 stars

"Fantastic fit that’s both comfortable and secure for all head sizes"

Fri 28 May 2010, 1:00 pm BSTBy

Italian company Kask’s excellent ‘up ’n’ down’ retention system sets this helmet apart from the crowd. The closure at the back pivots to cup the base of your skull and provides a supportive fit.

Remarkably, this lid fitted riders at the extremes of its wide size range without compromising on either comfort or style. Unsure whether you prefer a dial or a thumb and finger push system to tighten your helmet? The K10 has both!

The large vents keep things cool and night time visibility is enhanced by reflective strips on the straps and rear (this one’s black). Even the closure glows in the dark.

  • This is a fantastic helmet and a real, genuine contender vs the Ionos/Atmos/Specialized 2-D/etc.

I had real trouble finding a helmet that fitted my head - when pulled even vaguely tight ,most of them "pinched" at the front and back of my head while remaining loose at the sides - until I tried this one!

As well as a different shape to the helmet, the K10 has a very different fixing mechanism that is hinged and will sit much lower at the back (more like the feeling of an MTB helmet) while retaining the wheel/dial mechanism of most road helmets which allows a lot of customisation of the fit for different head shapes

Strangely, the top-of the range C-50 Vertigo was nowhere near as comfortable for me - it has the same fixing mechanism, but the helmet shape is very different and more like the Atmos/Ionos.

It is really very light (lighter than my Bell Sweep R) and has fabulous venting, so keeps you nice and cool.

Only downside is that being relatively new to the UK, some of the accessories are not yet available, but as long as they eventually appear as aftermarket items, I will be happy as the helmet itself is an absolute gem.

If you look around, they do quite a range of colours, but be prepared to hunt, as most places are just stocking the Team Sky version which will not be to everyone's tastes!!

Overall, a terrific helmet that really stands out from the crowd.

  • Got this a few weeks back after looking around for a while, saw it in C+ helmet review and it doesn't disappoint.

Was wary of the fact it is one size for all but this is not an issue. It fits me superbly (I had a small Giro before) and the lady too (she has a large Giro).

You can even pick them up cheaper if you hunt around. Got mine from Athlete Service for £103, and they have the full range of colours too.

Like Mark found this more comfortable than the Vertigo (who's gel pads got stuck in my hair after trying it on!!) but insect nets are separate and not currently available to my knowledge.

And I was the only person wearing a Kask helmet in the park at the weekend. I'm sure that may well change very soon though.

  • I bought one of the KasK K10s when they first came out.

I'd tried loads of helmets from all the big brands and None came close to the KasK for fit and comfort.

I'd recommend one of these to anyone. 11/10

  • After trying on, and discounting, helmets from the usual suspects - Giro, Met and Specialized at my LBS I decided to take a gamble and order the Kask K10 online as there's no Kask stockists in my area.

It arrived yesterday and the gamble paid off! The overall quality/finish of the helmet is excellent. IMO, better than that of the Specialized S-Works D2, which is a very good helmet.

Kask have also applied a bit of common sense and as well as having the usual reflective stickers at the rear of the helmet, the straps are also made from a reflective/luminescent material.

Kasks UP n DOWN retention system works really well, making it easy to get a comfortable but reassuringly snug fit. It's definitely a put-it-on and forget about it helmet, weighing only 280g.

Helmets, like shoes, saddles etc are a very personal choice but I'd definitely recommend giving one of these a try if you're thinking about replacing your lid.

So far, the only negative aspect of the K10 is that spares (pads etc) will need to be ordered directly from Kask in Italy as I can't find anyone in the UK who stocks them. Although, it's early days and I might not need to worry about this.

  • I got the cheaper £80 sibling of this ehlmet and it's terrific. it also has the superbly comfortable hinged fitting system. The best helmet I've ever tried on by a long way and the hinge is also great for clamping glasses underneath it post-ride.

  • Quality of construction is light years ahead of the mainstream competition: leaving Giro, Bell, Specialized products looking a bit basic in comparison. Little comfort touches are everywhere: until you hold one and put it on you can't appreciate the extent of the thoughtful detailing. And when you put it on (head circumference 58.5-59cm) the comfort is genuinely supreme, helped by beautifully cut padding. Retention is amazing thanks to the pivoting adjusters at the back, which also helps a snug positioning low on the forehead, and is very easy to adjust in a split second. I am impressed. Why can't more products be this well made?
