Top fit-and-forget pads

BikeRadar score4/5

These knee guards set precedents in comfort and protection when they were launched a few years back. Everyone raved about them – even cross-country guides who just used them in winter for warmth. They're still up there with the best.

Decent above and below knee lengths combine with wrap-around Velcro straps to keep the pads locked in place while you’re pedalling. The twin straps give good security, even if you end up on your hands and knees at speed.

The main pads are a fusion of soft foam bonded to a denser shell layer hidden behind a stretchy outer fabric that slides rather than tears. The result is protection that sits somewhere between soft and hard pad genres. Generous lateral pads offer protection against top tube bashes too.

Cutout sections behind the knees help with heat dispersion and eliminate bunching, and their low profile means the Kyle Straits fit underneath jeans or 3/4-length baggy shorts.
