"A clever mix of new and old makes a good mini pump"

Tue 15 Apr 2008, 5:00 pm BSTBy

This pump is a combination of the modern and the tried-and-tested. The aluminium construction is sturdy – even though the piston is a bit loose in the barrel at the end of the stroke – but most notable is the return of the rubber hose.

It’s a clever reversible one that stows away in the handle. Lezyne claims it reduces valve stress, and because it screws on it’s easier to use on fiddly valves and flat tyres.

The stated maximum pressure of 120psi is, as ever, optimistic, but it’ll push 100psi before your hands hurt. It’ll add 110g to your load.

  • I've just bought one of these and it is ace! the best pump i have used. It's is a very tidy, compact design, but still feels strong.

I went for the pressure drive as it has the hose connection rather than straight on to the valve and it all seals up really nice, no air leak at all.

Buy it. It's well worth the money.

  • The neat dual Schraeder/Presta hose was the main reason I bought one of these, as my usual pump (Blackburn Mtn Air) was a real fiddle to fit the small wheels of my kids' bikes. With my hamfisted efforts pumps like the Blackburn can bend Presta valve ends too as the effort is across the wheel. The Lezyne avoids this stress on the valve.

I'm impressed with the light weight and solid construction. Admittedly the small size means it takes a lot of strokes to get a decent pressure but it gets there, and I can keep adding air when other mini pumps won't.
