MTB World Cup: Gwin victorious on home soil

Four wins out of five for American racer

Aaron Gwin (Trek World Racing) took his fourth World Cup win of the year yesterday on home soil in Windham, New York, increasing his lead in the 2011 series to over 300 points. His main rivals Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate) and Gee Atherton (Commencal) finished well back – 11th and 12th, respectively.

In fact, the biggest challenge to Gwin's dominance came from veteran racer Steve Peat (Santa Cruz Syndicate) – perhaps no surprise, considering he was several seconds up on the same course last year before a massive crash put him out of the running – and South Africa's Andrew Neethling (Giant Factory Off-Road Team), who finally got the kind of result he's long been promising.

Full report to follow.
