"Cunning convertible jacket/gilet but not great as either"

By Guy Kesteven

The Morphis is Cannondale's cunning convertible shell, but its casual fit means it looks OK off the bike too.

The tall double collar and drawcord waist keep draughts out and there's enough give in the elastic wrists to pull them up without any pinching.

The non-taped seams mean the jacket isn't completely waterproof but it will keep showers and stiff breezes off.

The unlined rubberised fabric feels very clammy though, even through a long sleeved base layer, and sweat builds up alarmingly quickly.

At this point you're meant to undo the top of chest zips and whip off the sleeves and back yoke (think Cup-a- Soup furry arms advert) to cool you down. Unfortunately, when added to the sweat accumulation, the big panel of mesh across the shoulders can cool you down much too fast (especially if it's drizzling), leading to a frozen stiff upper body.

The jacket is relatively heavy too. On the bright side, it's cheap for a convertible and there are zipped hand pockets and a chest pocket for keys, cash, iPod, etc.
