Lower price points usually mean appropriately lower expectations, but in the case of the Fox First Layer, its simple styling doesn't mean it feels basic.
The fabric has an almost silky feel, which means it slides on easily and jerseys can be just as easily layered over the top.
The cut is relaxed for a base layer, and for that reason we’ve been pairing it with looser jerseys. It doesn’t add a huge amount of extra warmth but wicks well and dries fast.
There are small touches you’d expect to find on pricier tops – panel stitch detailing, well-cut raglan sleeves and a heat transfer neck label – which make it look more expensive than it is.
The only downside? You won’t be the most fragrant rider at the end of a long day.
