There’s a clue to the performance of this new base layer from Mavic in its name – it uses a blend of wool and polyester to combine natural anti-bacterial qualities with faster drying.
The result is that even though it feels light, pulling it on you get the instantly cosy feel associated with wool base layers – a great next-to-skin smoothness that we might even prefer to pure merino.
The construction is immaculate, with smooth flatlocked seams, and although the fit is slim, it's not breathtakingly so, and it articulates well through the sleeves and shoulders, so the whole body doesn’t hoick up when you move your arms.
It’s not a budget option, but its best-of-both-worlds functionality means it’s worth the investment.
