Finally - forks for mudguards
There are quite a few fixed leg carbon forks around these days, but we'd say this White Brothers offering is up among the very best.
Charge's new Nozzle rigid fork is unique in that there's no reinforcing or bracing at all, simply because the fork doesn't need it. It's made from high-end Sanko Japanese chromoly tubing, which is better quality than regular chromo.
Like the Acor Winter and Bontrager forks, the 4Ever is aimed at mudguard users and has correspondingly longer fork blades to provide clearance for mudguards and race tyres up to 25mm in section.
The Xmax is a sturdy carbon-wrapped aluminium offering that's quite a lot heavier than the other forks, but importers Upgrade say there's a new version on the way that'll weigh around 120g less.
The Race X Lite features carbon-wrapped aluminium legs together with an aluminium crown and dropouts. Like most fixed-blade forks these days, it's designed to plug into frames built with a mid-travel suspension fork in mind.
Although Merida's Carbon fork is 15mm shorter than the industry norm, it comes with a hollow 15mm aluminium spacer that you can slide on to the steerer base to lift it, reinstating suspension-corrected geometry.
We've ridden both the 26er and 29er versions of On- One's fork and we like them a lot. The 26er feels a little harsher over the bumps than Pace's RC31, but that's not really surprising because it's a bit heavier.
You can buy the Carbon Race frame on its own for £900 or you can go for this very nicely spec'd Special Edition bike for twice as much.
