Manitou Travis Triple Intrinsic (08) | $1096.41
BikeRadar verdict
"Heavy with compromised bump response, but not a bad big hitter for the money"
Manitou's Travis has got better for 2008, but still has some ground to make up.
By dropping the titanium spring, cost has come down but weight has gone up.
Despite the lowers being extended past the axle, ride height is tall even on this 180mm version.
It’s reasonably stiff considering its skinny 34mm legs, but narrow stance does mean restricted steering.
The Intrinsic compression and rebound damping works OK and it picks up bigger hits well once you’ve set the cartridge air pressure right.
It’s always a compromise between either excess dive or not enough small bump compliance – finding a balance takes patience.
The direct fit adjustable ‘stem’ block is a nice touch and it’s not a bad price for a full feature dual crown.
