Shimano XTR Review - BikeRadar

Despite Shimano always having had a posh pair of SPDs in their range this is the first time the genufl ected XTR moniker has made it onto a set of pedals. Despite them being the lightest MTB pedal Shimano have ever made they're not overly svelte, but they look pimp-ass in that special expensive blue-grey and are racery minimalist. A severely cutaway forged alloy body spins on a slender hollow chromoly axle that tightens onto the crank using an 8mm Allen hole. Shimano says there's a revised cleat interface for increased stability and the binding system is coated in Tefl on to shed mud while the open design lessens clogging. In use they're familiarly an SPD pedal, positive clicks in and out, with good shoe support and a tenacious hold for the sprint. They can get a bit holdy in the dry and now only extremely muddy clay-like trails requires cleat grind.
