Onza Greina FR 2.25in tyre - in brief £34.99

Mountain bike tyre for wet and muddy conditions

BikeRadar score 3/5

It’s primarily a wet mountain bike tyre, but the Onza Greina FR’s big open tread actually works pretty well on loose rock and loamy roots.

It’s definitely a drifter rather than a railing tyre, but the medium compound keeps the movement predictable whether it’s loose kitty litter and rocks or wet mud under your tyres. As long as you don’t skid it and tear chunks off, it lasts okay through the year and is a decent choice if you can’t be bothered to change rubber based on the forecast.

The big tread spacing means it’s pretty slow and growly on pedally sections, but it’s not a bad weight (710g) to boost up to speed. The actual carcass dimensions are small for an alleged 2.25in tyre though (50.7mm width), so don’t go too low on pressure or too hard across sharp-edged rocks.
