Fox Racing Flux | $99.95
BikeRadar verdict
"Still the benchmark in protection but very heavy for a trail lid"
Fox’s Flux is the daddy of trail helmets. It still has some unique features but it’s starting to face some stiff competition. Protection is key, with additional coverage extending all the way down to the nape of the neck, relatively small vents on the sides to prevent pointy stick ingress and an extra thick shell for additional impact absorbance.
The price paid is weight and you’ll feel every gram if you climb as much as you descend. Venting’s really quite reasonable given the coverage, although the rear fin is a bit of a pointless novelty and we’d much prefer it to be removable. Straps are anchored very firmly into the edges of the shell to reduce bulk on the inside and the fit is rounded and deep.

Probably the best helmet I've ever had....and it keeps my head cool. It keeps the sun out of your eyes and the ratchet system is an easy adjustment with one hand.
What Mountain Bike rated this as a 6 in the helmet review last issue but then gave it an 8 and named it as third best trail helmet in the buyers guide. Presuming this is from different reviewers it just goes to show that as with everything MTB it's personal choice.
I swapped my Giro Xen for the Fox Flux and damn glad I did.

I agree with the main review but think the exhaust fin looks cool. Could do with being removable though.
Now have a Giro Hex and its better than the flux.
The flux is heavier, hotter, more expensive, but does look better. The adjustment is fine though and it stays happily in place.
I hit a rabbit at 25mph on the road with my flux, landed directly on top of the helmet and apart from the obvious neck pain my head was absolutely fine so no complaints there. But. Remember they don't have a crash replacement policy. So I had mine 3 months and would have had to splash out another £70 whereas with the hex being ~£50 and with crash replacement a new one is £35.

The Flux looks awesome but from my experience it's not built to great standards.
Both of the clips by the ears which pull the straps together broke and fell off by the 2nd ride and the visor keeps coming loose. Heat ventilation is tricky to compare to my other helmets but during slow long steep climbs I remove the helmet as it gets too hot.

The clips are flimsy and do break but they are covered under warranty. A weight penalty? Get real! Do you really notice when you are riding? Really? Great protection and cool enough with the venting its got. Looks great too. Agree with the comments about the visor - a small crash and roll means its a bit loose now.

Great looking lid but as some have already mentioned, some of the build quality not great. I bought one of these (despite some negative press regarding build quality) only to have the same problem as SDK2007 with the strap clasps. After a week this was sorted by LBS but then one of the clips holding the visor gave out. In the end got refund.
When looking for replacement, a larger bike store had some in stock but every one of the colour I wanted had been shipped without a visor. This , coupled with my previous experience, has meant that it's doubtful I'll be buying a Flux. I'll stick with My S1.
BTW - dirtbiker100...the fin does come off. Needs a bit of manipulation though.
