MET Kaos Ultimate Helmet (08) | £134.99
BikeRadar verdict
"Ultra light, awesome looks and comfort but with a price tag to make even the Beckhams think twice"
Met claim the 195g Kaos Ultimalite is the lightest freeride helmet in the world, and when you slip it on your head you can believe them – it almost feels as though you’re not actually wearing anything!
This latest incarnation of the Kaos is 55g lighter than a regular Kaos – it’s on par with a road lid but with the styling for all-mountain use.
Its secret lies in the Ultimalite fibre construction, an ultra light composite material invented by the clever people at Met. Twenty-two large vents take care of ventilation and keep air flowing even at low speeds.
The Coolmax padding is minimal but provides all that’s needed for comfort, great sweat absorption and fast evaporation.
In a Giro-dominated world, it’s great to see an excellently designed lid that has good enough looks to rival the best, the rubberised finish is a great tactile addition and as well as the white it’s also available in grey fade.
Bearing in mind that it’s almost £45 more expensive than a regular Kaos, the decision has to be whether you can justify the extra cash in exchange for the weight saving.
