Bluegrass Intox helmet £84.99

Good value full-face protection

BikeRadar score 3/5

The Intox is Bluegrass’s entry-level full face helmet, and it’s well priced, coming in a penny under £85. An ABS plastic outer shell is married up with an EPS foam inner, and our medium sized test lid weighed a respectable 1,010g. It looks good, too, and has a unique styling to it – it might not be to everyone’s taste, but we quite liked it.

Once in place, the fit is good, with no tight spots or odd shaping, and plenty of ear room. On the trail, the lack of vents becomes quickly apparent on a warm day, escalating cases of sweaty head. Good job the helmet's pads are all removable and washable, then! They’re not too fiddly to get in and out, thanks to the easy poppers on the cheek pads and the pull out top section of the liner.

The moto styled mouthpiece lets just enough air in when you’re gasping for breath. Some goggles were a snug fit on the top side, because of where the helmet seems to sit. This wasn’t a problem with most popular goggle brands, though - it was only when we tried a pair with a massive frame that we really noticed it.

All in all, we’re being pretty picky here, because the Bluegrass Intox helmet punches above its price.
