Brian Lopes edition all-mountain helmet

BikeRadar score2/5

The Oasiz is Lazer’s all-mountain helmet, offering additional protection for the back of the skull. This Brian Lopes signature edition comes with a natty black/bronze colour scheme, which gives it a classy, understated look. Other colours and finishes are available.

There are two main features worth mentioning, and the first is the Magic Buckle. Instead of the usual clip, Lazer use a magnetic attachment for the chin strap. While perfectly secure, it takes a bit of getting used to, and it’s difficult to see what the real benefit is. Releasing the strap with bulky gloves is a bit easier, but we didn’t find it as intuitive to use as a regular clip.

The other feature is the Rollsys size adjustment. There’s a big dial on the top of the helmet, easy to locate and use, which moves the rear basket, along with vertical adjustments accessible from inside the helmet.

We found the fit of the Oasiz a little odd. The Rollsys certainly provides a reasonable range of adjustment; however, it felt more like a builder’s hard hat than a cycle helmet. The shell feels as though it’s well away from your skull, with the adjustable headband being the main thing in contact with your head.

It’s especially noticeable at the back, and the end result is a noticeable lack of stablity on rough trails. It’s possible to add an integrated GoPro mount to the Oasiz, but that would only make it top-heavy and even less stable.

Despite this, the Oasiz isn’t uncomfortable, and it’s biggest plus is the venting, which works well. If your riding is gentle and you hate feeling enclosed, it might be worth a shot.
