Australian owned Salted Bikes - first look

Fat bike suspension fork and carbon frame

There’s no doubt that we’re in the midst of a boom in fat bike popularity. With so much sandy and coastal riding available, fat bikes open new opportunities to ride places that were otherwise too difficult or just impossible.

Salted Bikes is an Australian owned fat bike brand and aim to bring carbon and suspension to the Australian fat bike market. Carbon fat bikes are fairly new, only recently seen with the Salsa Beargrease.

Salted’s most exciting product is the new Eyre suspension fork. Due to the extreme tyre widths, the fork is an upside-down design and provides 110mm of travel. Key features include adjustable compression, rebound, air spring and a lockout. Beefy 38mm stanchions and a 135 x 15mm axle should keep everything inline nicely.

Salted spoke with BikeRadar about a new carbon frame and fork - the ‘Sandfly’. At a claimed 1270g for the frame, the Sandfly won’t be a heavy fat bike. Room for 4.8” tyres, internal cable routing, 12mm rear thru-axle, tapered headtube and rear rack mounts – the Sandfly looks promising.

Salted Bikes is owned by Dirt Works Australia, who’ve been importing Fat bikes into Australia since 2005.
